EU foreign ministers are unlikely to cite 2009 as the year that Serbia can receive candidate status, daily Dnevnik writes today. In its declaration, the EU Council of Ministers will reiterate that Serbia can speed up its EU integration—including obtaining candidate status—if it fulfills its obligations towards the Hague Tribunal, the daily writes, quoting sources from Brussels. “EU to omit time frames for Serbia” "The decision to avoid mentioning 2009 is still not final, but given that certain countries like Germany are against including time frames in declarations, not just for Serbia but Croatia too, it is unlikely that dates will be mentioned,” the daily’s source said. Dnevnik stated that the chances of unblocking the Interim Trade Agreement were low, and that it could only happen if Hague fugitive Ratko Mladic was arrested by Monday. "Holland insists on its position that full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal means Serbia meeting the conditions for ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement and unfreezing the interim agreement,” the Dutch Foreign Ministry told the daily.
