Daily Dnevnik says that recent statements by Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic could be "undermining Serbia’s EU aspirations". The daily states that it has seen a document recently drafted by EU officials following the European Commission’s annual report on Serbia’s EU integration process that further addresses the issue. “Jeremic under fire from EU” The daily states that, sooner or later, Serbia is certain to become a member of the Union, but that many member-states have expressed their displeasure at Jeremic’s recent "outbursts". Germany officials called his statements “damaging for Serbia.” “Jeremic is creating an atmosphere where, whatever the EU does for Serbia, it’s never enough, and by doing so he is trying to blame the EU for his own government’s failings in advance,” German diplomats believe, according to the daily. Nor have British officials taken kindly to Jeremic’s statement’s, stating that they are “detrimental to both regional stability, the role of the EU, and to Serbia itself.” Even traditionally pro-Serbian Rome’s only criticism of Serbia focused on Jeremic, a view echoed by Sweden. Belgian diplomats criticized his statement that the Serbia government would not be able to honor all its promises because of the world financial crisis and that the EU needed to do more to help Serbia. Hungary stated that while it would do its utmost to help Serbia get on the Schengen white list for visa-free travel and become a candidate for EU membership, but that Jeremic’s "threats had to stop". The Czech Republic, which will be presiding over the EU in January, stated that it supported Serbia’s EU integration but that Jeremic’s "outbursts" had to be nipped in the bud.
