Chairman of the Coordinating Body for the South of Serbia Milan Markovic says the priority of the organ’s future work is the region’s economic development. "We in Medvedja expect the Lece mine to begin working, which will employ 200 people very soon, and later, even more,“ said Markovic after a meeting with Presevo, Bujanovac and Medvedja municipal representatives Nadir Sadiku, Saip Kamberi and Slobodan Draskovic, as well as MP Riza Halimi. "Development of south is priority" “We also expect the Niteks factory to begin working, as well as some projects in the agricultural industry, primarily milk production,“ he said, adding that that in March or April of next year, a big rally of industrialists would be held in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce. “We expect a number of Greenfield investments, as well as investment in companies that are still to be privatized,“ said Markovic, adding that there had also been talk of involving Serbs in the Bujanovac and Presevo local authorities. Asked whether Albanians would take part in the work of the Coordinating Body, he replied that he expected “everyone to work together very soon for the good of the region.“ “I expect us to be together in the same jobs,“ said Markovic. Halimi said that there was a chance that the work of the Coordinating Body could become more expeditious in the interests of improving the economic situation and integrating the Albanians into state structures. The Albanians are disposed to getting involved in the Coordinating Body’s work, he said. State Secretary in the Economy and Regional Development Ministry Dejan Jovanovic said that the ministry would look to enhance infrastructure in the region. “Through the development of local infrastructure, we want to help improve the lives of people in this region. The other issue that we want to address is opening small and medium-sized companies which would remedy the problem of unemployment and raise the standards for people living there,“ Jovanovic explained. State Secretary in the Justice Ministry Slobodan Homen said that the draft laws on judges envision provisions that national minorities should be adequately represented in judicial organs, not just at the level of local courts, but within the highest legal institutions.
