It’s already a part of history, whoever wins,” Mitchell said. “Of course, these elections are very important, not just for me, but for my military colleagues. They will directly affect what the military will look like,” one soldier in Kosovo said. Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci believes that Washington’s support for Kosovo will not change, regardless of whether the Democrat or Republican candidate wins. “I am convinced that, and we have guarantees that the American government will, in future, cooperate with Pristina, and that cooperation will progress. I am very proud that I am leading the Kosovo government, which is the most European and pro-American oriented government in the region,” Thaci said. Polls have shown that Democrat candidate Barack Obama is very popular in countries that are close allies of the U.S., such as Australia, Canada and countries in western Europe.
