The Association of European Liberal Democratic Parties has adopted two resolutions pertaining to acceleration of Serbia's EU integration. The first resolution calls on the Dutch government to unblock the Interim Trade Agreement and ratify the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA). The second insists on a visa-free regime being established between the EU and the countries of the West Balkans. EP Lib-Dems adopt resolutions for accelerating EU path Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Cedomir Jovanovic attended the congress in Stockholm. "The fact that European liberals have supported our initiatives with the backing of two Dutch parliamentary parties attests to a willingness to unblock the SAA, which must be accompanied by more active policies by our own government," he said. European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin, whose party is also a member of the ELDR, submitted the resolutions. "These principles, above all, oblige the country’s parliament to be more responsible when it comes to EU integration, which means that the ruling coalition must completely change its position,” Jovanovic said yesterday. "By monopolizing EU integration, the ruling coalition has brought the country to the point of complete blockade, due to incompetence within the coalition itself, and its unwillingness to do everything it should for Serbia to become a European society,” he added. Yesterday, the LDP was unanimously accepted into the European Liberal Democrat Party (ELDR). The LDP is the first party ever to be accepted into this organization directly, under accelerated procedure. Liberal and democratic parties from the region and from several EU countries, including the Netherlands, supported the LDP’s membership to the ELDR, a party statement reads. The ELDR association, which is one of the most influential organizations in EU institutions and carries a significant influence on the European Commission, gathers together parties from all over Europe that share joint liberal, democratic and reform-oriented political goals and manifestos.
