Daniel Serwer, an analyst at the Washington Institute of Peace, believes the UN’s resolution on Kosovo is not a good idea from the aspect of regional stability. “It brings uncertainty, and some think it’s an excuse to delay important decisions, while the reason for settling Kosovo’s status was that the uncertainty in terms of its future was too big. I honestly think the result will be the same in either case, but uncertainty, as we see on today’s financial markets, isn’t a good thing,“ he told VoA. "Recognition is sovereign right of every state" Serwer said that every independent country should support its neighbors. “It’s good for relations between Pristina and Skopje, Pristina and Podgorica, that recognition took place. Serbia’s the one creating instability, not recognition of Kosovo independence,“ he stated. Serwer added that it was the sovereign right of every independent country to recognize another country as sovereign. “The idea that Belgrade can control that is wrong, that’s an idea that reeks of ’Greater Serbia’, of Yugo-nostalgia, whatever you want to call it. The fundamental right of a sovereign country is to recognize another country, and only countries directly involved can choose there. Serbia’s the one that is deciding to cause instability and complicate things, and not the decision of its neighbors,“ he surmised.
