Kosovo begins issuing new ID cards

The Kosovo Interior Ministry has begun issuing new personal ID cards carrying Republic of Kosovo insignia.

The Kosovo Interior Ministry has begun issuing new personal ID cards carrying Republic of Kosovo insignia. At an official ceremony in Pristina, the first ID cards were issued to 25 people, including five Serbs. Kosovo begins issuing new ID cards The ID cards are in the same format as their UNMIK predecessors, containing biometric data, and written in Albanian, Serbian and English, reports KiM radio. Kosovo Police Service spokesman Veton Elshani told KiM radio that the Kosovo police would still recognize all ID cards that are still valid, as well UNMIK documents and ID cards issued by Serbian MUP. “We will accept everything that has been valid up to now, and will continue to do so until a new decision is taken. We’ve never harassed anyone or asked them—why do you have a Serbian ID card?“ he said. “The majority of UNMIK documents have already expired, and we’ll see how things go from here, but I don’t think that we’ll be bothering people just because they don’t have the Republic of Kosovo ID,“ said Elshani.
