President Boris Tadić met in Berlin with the city’s Mayor Klaus Wowereit as he kicked off his visit to Germany on Wednesday.

President Boris Tadic met in Berlin with the city’s Mayor Klaus Wowereit as he kicked off his visit to Germany on Wednesday. Tadic and Wowereit met at the Adlon Hotel and walked through the Brandenburg Gate, the symbol of Berlin, after which Tadic signed the German capital’s Golden Book. In the afternoon, the president will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Frank Walter-Steinmeier, with the main themes of their meeting expected to be the situation in the Balkans, as well as bilateral and European issues. He will then visit a primary school in Berlin, one of few that offers classes in Serbian language. On Friday, Tadic will be handed the Quadriga award, which is presented on German Unity Day, October 3, every year in Berlin to individuals for their “vision, courage, responsibility and engagement that make the world a better place.” The award is given by the German Workshop Association, whose members are renowned German politicians, businessmen and artists.
