Due to opposition obstruction, the government will probably have to withdraw laws Serbia needs to adopt to get on the White Schengen List, says the speaker. Slavica Djukic Dejanovic said that if withdrawn today, the laws would be on the agenda of the regular autumn parliamentary session. Obstruction impeding adoption of Schengen laws It seems as if parliament is once again running out of time. Instead of debating laws regarding liberalization of Serbia’s visa regime with the EU, parliament will today continue the debate on official state personnel. The session resumed this morning at 10:00 CET. MPs are due to discuss nominations for parliamentary secretaries and their deputies, and to decide on the dismissal of several judiciary officials. According to the agenda, parliament is due first to resolve personnel issues, with discussion on visa regime liberalization with the EU to follow. However, the speaker told TV B92 that those laws would be scheduled for the regular autumn session. “Had there been a little more understanding, these laws would already have been adopted. Since the regular autumn session begins on October 1, the government will most probably withdraw them, and then send them back for regular procedure,” the speaker said. Besides the laws regarding liberalization of the visa regime with the EU, the autumn session’s agenda will feature ratification of agreements giving Serbia access to loans, as well as certain system laws. “It’s important that we bring all laws in line with the Constitution, which means by December 30. Parliament has notified the government of this issue, and I except the government to act accordingly. Even though they are facing a number of operational matters, the relevant ministries will have to bear this in mind,” Djukic Dejanovic said. A day has not gone by since the beginning of the emergency session on September 25, without obstruction. In spite of this, MPs yesterday managed to conclude the discussion on the election of the four Ombudsman deputies. Slavica Djukic Dejanovic (FoNet)
