The province’s Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuqi said that this would be the goal of the Kosovo government, even though they did not see the UN as an ideal place for this. Kosovo to lobby at General Assembly At the same time, Kuqi expressed his opposition to Serbia’s initiative to seek the International Court of Justice’s (ICJ) opinion on the province’s independence declaration. “I don’t think the UN General Assembly is a place where we’ll have the opportunity to lobby for Kosovo independence. The president and the foreign minister, who will travel to New York, are preparing to meet various UN officials. I believe there will be a decent representation from our side, and from the side of our international friends,” he said. “Serbia’s initiative is above all aimed against Kosovo and that’s what people need to realize. Second, that approach is against the principle of regional relations and, above all, it is aimed against the legitimate and democratic decisions of the countries that have recognized Kosovo. I believe that we’re not alone in this fight and that we’ll win,” Kuqi predicted confidently.
