Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz will begin a two-day visit to Belgrade tomorrow. He is expected to meet with President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic, Interior and Justice Ministers Ivica Dacic and Snezana Malovic, as well as members of the action team for arresting the remaining Hague fugitives Rasim Ljajic, Vladimir Vukcevic and Sasa Vukadinovic, the new security services chief. Brammertz in Belgrade on Wednesday During his first visit since the formation of the new government, Brammertz will be discussing “old” issues—Serbia’s cooperation with the Tribunal, efforts to locate and extradite the remaining fugitives, and the transfer of documents from state archives. Belgrade claims that, as far as the documentation is concerned, cooperation with the Tribunal has been completed, and that every document requested by the prosecution has been delivered. Serbia also claims that following the arrest of Radovan Karadzic, Serbia’s readiness to apprehend the remaining fugitives, Ratko Mladic and Goran Hadzic, cannot be questioned. It is important for Serbia to have Brammertz agree with that appraisal, though the chief prosecutor did not wish to make any comment ahead of his visit. EU officials Olli Rehn and Javier Solana have said that a positive report from Brammertz could help unblock Serbia’s temporary agreement with the EU and the trade part of the Stabilization and Association Agreement by the end of September.
