Tadić rules out meeting with Sejdiu

President Boris Tadic has ruled out the possibility of meeting with Kosovo counterpart Fatmir Sejdiu. He stated that the only conditions under which such a meeting could take place was in the case of negotiations, under UN supervision, and to discuss the future status of Kosovo. Tadic rules out meeting with Sejdiu "The only possible way for there to be a meeting between President Boris Tadic and Mr. Sejdiu is through new negotiations, supervised by the UN, on the future status of our southern province of Kosovo," Beta was told by the Serbian president's cabinet. On Sept. 3 and 4, Sejdiu stated that he was willing to meet with Tadic, in the presence of international representatives, but not to discuss the issue of Kosovo's status. Sejdiu also said that UNMIK could not be involved in organizing the meeting. Belul Beqaj, a political analyst in Pristina, said that a meeting between the Kosovo and Serbian presidents would in essence signify the direct recognition of Kosovo as an independent country. In a statement for daily Epoka e Re, Beqaj said that he did not believe that a meeting between the two presidents was possible, bearing in mind the initiative that Serbia had begun at the UN.
