Vojislav Kostunica said Tuesday that “Kosovo has proved to be no special case”. The former prime minister and leader of Leader of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) added that “the dangerous virus of unlawful independence” would continue infecting different countries. Kostunica: Nothing special about Kosovo In an interview with Tanjug, Kostunica underlined that a statement by French President Nicolas Sarkozy that Kosovo is a special case and that, "of all the countries in the world, only Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity can be violated", represents a continuation of "the very wrong policy the European Union has been pursuing”. “Since the EU pursued the policy of double standards by destroying Serbia's territorial wholeness and protecting the territorial integrity of Georgia, it was inevitable that such a policy led to a serious violation of international law and the threatening of peace and stability in the world,” the DSS leader assessed. “The question is what right do the countries which brutally violated this principle when they recognized Kosovo's unilateral independence have to call for respect of the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he wondered. “The Western countries that exercised the policy of force and violated Serbia's wholeness are to be held completely responsible for the consequences a number of countries that are facing similar problems which Serbia has with its southern province may experience,” said Kostunica.
