Oliver Dulic says the government is ready to solve the issue of state property used by govt. officials. The environment and spatial planning minister told B92 that state officials did not buy the apartments at reduced prices, adding that the very fact that the government was getting to grips with this issue was an indicator of transparency. “Govt. to tackle issue of official residences” Dulic said that raising the issue of state-owned property used by government officials was a good sign that the political will existed in the country to recognize problems and to solve them. The minister said that the basic problems in dealing with the so-called construction mafia were the paucity of laws in that area, but also the lack of political will. Commenting on illegally built flats and the association of “1,000 injured parties”, Dulic said that the state was unable to do anything about that matter, and that it was up to the courts now. The new law on planning and construction, which is soon to enter parliamentary procedure, should further regulate the area of building permits. The new law provides for the existence of so-called white and black investors, which should offer additional security to citizens buying property. The government recently ordered the Republic Property Agency to prepare a precise register on the status of all government apartments and business premises. Once the register has been compiled, the government says that it will become clear how many official apartments there are, and how they should be distributed. Oliver Dulic (FoNet, archive)
