A cabinet minister denied in an interview today that his ties with Delta Holding are illegal or controversial. Minister of Trade and Services Slobodan Milosaviljevic spoke to the Novi Sad daily Dnevnik when he denied rumors he was "a champion" of Serbia's largest privately-owned enterprise, often accused of holding monopoly positions in the domestic market. I'm no Delta man, says minister At the same time, Milosavljevic, DS, announced greater competition "in order to reduce the monopoly of some trade chains even more". "It is not true I am a Delta man and that I protect monopolies in any way. I have never done any deal with Delta, except that I always say I will help any domestic retail company go beyond the borders of Serbia," Milosavljevic was quoted as saying. He also announced the construction of a large business and shopping centre in the Belarus capital of Minsk, with the participation of Delta, MK Commerce and Russia's Farman. A number of big foreign companies, including Tesco, Billa, Bauhaus and Ikea, should arrive in Serbia, the minister said. But Milosavljevic explained that "monopolies exist everywhere", and that "only abuse of a dominant position is prohibited", according to Tanjug news agency.
