The Kosovo government has named Fehmij Mujota (45) as its new defense minister. Mujota will command the Kosovo security services, which consist of some 2,500 active members and 800 reservists. Kosovo appoints defense minister These forces are yet to receive training, and will react in crisis situations and help protect the civilian population, according to the international plan, which, according to the Associated Press, paved the way for Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration of February 17. The 16,000 strong NATO-led peacekeeping forces in Kosovo will continue to be the chief security presence in the province. Kosovo independence has been recognized by 43 countries, including the U.S. and the majority of EU member-states.
