Public Prosecutor Slobodan Radovanovic says that recent statements by SRS officials contain elements that merit re-examination. The acting public prosecutor confirmed that he had asked for the footage and transcripts of the Serb Radical Party (SRS) press conference two days ago to be brought to him, where MP Vjerica Radeta calls President Boris Tadic a traitor, and warns him that he faces the same fate as the Obrenovic family and Zoran Djindjic. "SRS comments merit probe" Radovanovic told state broadcaster RTS that such statements had elements that needed to be looked into. “That was the reason that led me to act this way, but that still does not mean that criminal proceedings will be launched. I don’t want to say anything more on the matter until I finish analyzing the whole text, I can’t give a final answer,” explained Radovanovic. The prosecutor said that Serbian legislation contained a wide specter of crimes when it came to this kind of conduct. “There’s the group of crimes against state order and security, crimes against public order and peace, attacks on state organs. This kind of conduct, of course, can be sanctioned, but it depends on elements of the crime and its qualification, all of which will be determined from the authentic footage,” he explained. Radovanovic said that he supported the idea of enacting a law that would reduce parliamentary immunity. “The fact is that there have been complications and delays in procedure in certain important cases recently, maybe precisely because the institution of immunity is being used to protect certain people in a certain manner. This is a very important issue, and it requires a lot of thought, but, I think it would certainly be good if we could speed up these procedures over removal of immunity, and that has to be carried out by a serious state body, maybe the courts best, but I repeat that everything needs to be considered carefully before such a decision is taken,” says the prosecutor.
