The UN Security Council will today review UNMIK’s regular quarterly report, with FM Vuk Jeremic representing Serbia. The UN Security Council session will be open to the media, and will start at 16.00 CET. Security Council to review UNMIK report Jeremic will reiterate the Serbian government’s objection to the reconfiguration of the international civil mission without prior approval from the UN Security Council. In addition to Jeremic, UNMIK Chief Lamberto Zannier will also attend the session, whose delegation will include Kosovo Foreign Minister Skender Hiseni. The session will review the quarterly report of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who has decided to continue the process of UNMIK reconfiguration on the grounds that the mission cannot perform its former duties and needs to adjust to the “new reality” on the ground. The UN secretary-general has ordered UNMIK to cooperate with the EU and enable it to assume a stronger operative role in Kosovo in the area of the rule of law under “a UN umbrella”. Ban has stressed that the UN retains a strictly neutral position when it comes to the province’s status. Jeremić will reiterate the Serbian government’s objection to the reconfiguration of the international civil mission without prior approval from the UN Security Council.
