FM Vuk Jeremic says he has objected strongly to the start of the reconfiguration of the civil missions in Kosovo. After talks with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Jeremic said that the main topic of conversation had been the reconfiguration of the international civil mission in Kosovo, pointing out that it was wrong that the process had begun without Belgrade, since there was no way it could finish without Belgrade. Jeremic: Strong objections to UNMIK changes "That is something that the secretary-general and myself agreed upon,” said the minister, pointing out that it had been agreed that official talks on the future international civil presence in Kosovo should begin soon, with a view to its possible alteration with the UN Security Council’s clear approval. He said that next week, he would be inviting Ban’s special envoy to Kosovo Lamberto Zannier to visit Belgrade. Jeremic said that a new round of talks between Belgrade and the UN was beginning, and that he was convinced that the talks would end in agreement over a “reconstruction of the international civil presence that’s acceptable to Belgrade, and which would receive a full legal mandate from the UN Security Council.” The minister told Ban that Serbia intended to propose a resolution at the General Assembly in September that would “seek the consultative opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Kosovo’s unilaterally declared independence." “I notified him of our intentions and of everything that we’re doing to secure a majority for Serbia’s proposal,” Jeremic explained.
