The mayor of southern K. Mitrovica has accused UNMIK of not honoring a deal over a controversial water pipeline. Bajram Rexhepi told Pristina's Koha Ditore newspaper that UNMIK is providing "banal" excuses for not going ahead with the works near the village of Suvi Do, "encouraging the parallel Serb structures in the north of Kosovo". S. Mitrovica mayor in new criticism of UNMIK "If residents go to the construction site to continue with works, I will be there to support them," he was quoted as saying. According to Rexhepi, the water pipeline project will be realized "with or without UNMIK". Several scuffles have already broken out at the location with local Serbs protesting the planned route of the pipes, set to go through their property, while at the same time they say they won't be able to benefit and use the water. A meeting between the municipal president with the residents of the village in the north of Kosovska Mitrovica has been scheduled for today, Beta says. Kosovo police, KPS, in Kosovska Mitrovica confirmed that they have received notification about "citizens intending to continue with the construction of the water pipeline". The Pristina daily says that police are yet to send an answer to this, expecting orders from appropriate institutions.
