An UNMIK deputy spokesman says Lamberto Zannier will visit Belgrade to meet with senior officials, but no date has been set. “We cannot give a precise date for his Belgrade visit, and we cannot even say for sure that it will be during this week as it was announced earlier,” Russell Geekie told reporters in Pristina today. UNMIK chief to visit Belgrade UNMIK spokesman Alexander Ivanko said on Wednesday that Zannier, who was recently appointed to the head UNMIK, would be visiting Belgrade this week. He said that the preparations for Zannier’s visit are on-going and are being taken care of by the United Nations office in Belgrade. Meanwhile, Kosovo Deputy Prime Minister Hajredin Kuci said that Kosovo’s institutions and people will make decisions about Kosovo, "and by no means UNMIK or Serbia". Commenting the announced Zannier visit after a new government is elected, this ethnic Albanian official said that "no one can negotiate with any other country in the name of Kosovo". He told Kosovo's public broadcaster RTK that "only specific technical questions can be discussed with Serbia, nothing else". “We are ready to talk with Serbia and all other neighboring countries about all questions as two independent and sovereign countries,” said Kuci. Also today, the man heading the EU mission that looks to take over from UNMIK, Yves de Kermabon said that EULEX will report to Brussels. This mission "will not be under the umbrella of the United Nations", Tanjug news agency quoted him as saying. Speaking after talks with Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, Kermabon elaborated that the EU judicial-police mission will "cooperate with UNMIK on the reconstruction of that administration, which implies also the taking over of the UN mandates", the agency said. Kermabon made the statement commenting on a proposal by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon that the EU should be more engaged on the reconstruction of the UN mission, adding that the EULEX would be under the auspices of the UN. EULEX will be different from UNMIK, the French official said, because its job will be to provide assistance to the Kosovo institutions. "Intensive work is under way to secure the deployment of EULEX throughout the territory of Kosovo," he said. Commenting on possible challenges with regard to the Serbs' opposition to this, Kermabon said the mission would "definitely be deployed, even if more time is required". ;;l’
