Socialist International (SI) President George Papandreou has voiced his satisfaction with the formation of a promising new pro-EU government in Serbia. “I believe this will be a new beginning that leads not only Serbia into Europe, but the Western Balkans and the whole region. It will be very beneficial for all of us in South-East Europe,“ Papandreou told the Socialist International Congress in Athens following a meeting with President Boris Tadic. SI president pleased with new govt. “I’m very pleased that the coalition in Serbia has a pro-European manifesto, and that Tadic has made it clear that he supports Serbia’s European perspective,“ said the SI president. The Serbian president thanked Papandreou for everything he had done for Serbia, adding that it was a great honor for him to speak not only about Serbia’s perspective, but other issues. He said that the SI’s principles were, at the same time, the principles of the whole region, and that he would like to see Serbia as a key factor for stability in South-East Europe. “Serbia is developing, and her government will work hard on infrastructure and a better social balance. Those are two aims of key importance,“ said Tadic, adding that the new government would be formed in Belgrade on Friday or Monday. George Papandreou, Boris Tadic (FoNet)
