Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic has this afternoon announced that this party's candidate for prime minister will be Mirko Cvetkovic. Tadic, acting in his capacity as Serbia's president, has given Cvetkovic the mandate to form the new government. He is the finance minister in the outgoing cabinet, expected to be replaced next week. Cvetkovic named DS candidate for premier Tadic's cabinet press service said that the announcement came after consultations with parties and coalitions represented in new parliament. The next government will be made up of the coalition gathered around the DS, that put together by the SPS, "For a European Sandzak" ticket led by Sulejman Ugljanin, and the Hungarian Coalition. The decision on who the Democrats, leading a five-party coalition dubbed, "For a European Serbia", would choose as the next premier, has reportedly caused turmoil in the party ranks. The DS and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) group of three parties are negotiating to form a parliamentary majority necessary for a coalition government to be put together. Earlier today, it was B92's sources said that a coalition agreement between all the constituent members of the DS-led coalition will be finalized today, after which the distribution of ministries in the future government will be known. According to other unconfirmed reports, Tadic and G17 Plus leader Mladjan Dinkic have already signed a coalition agreement. Speaker Slavica Djukic Dejanovic (SPS) said earlier that a coalition agreement had been signed for a ruling majority, the details of which would be released later today. Prior to the resumption of parliament's constitutive session, she told journalists that she had not participated in the talks, but that she was informed of what had taken place. It was reported late last night that the DS and G17 Plus had signed an agreement over the distribution of ministries in the new government. Under the agreement between Tadic and Dinkic, the new government would have four deputy prime ministers, three of whom would also head ministries. Beta understands that draft laws on the government and ministries have also been drawn up that could come before MPs on Monday. The new government may well be formed on Wednesday. Under the agreement there will be 24 ministries, one of which will be without portfolio, reserved for Bosniak list representative Bajram Omeragic. The agriculture and ecology ministries will be combined, while there are plans to create two new ministries—one for construction and spatial planning, the other for human and minority rights. There is also a possibility of one more ministry being formed that would belong to Hungarian Coalition representatives. According to earlier reports, Dinkic will receive one of the deputy prime ministerial posts together with the economy ministry, while party colleague Tomica Milosavljevic will remain at the health ministry. The Telecommunications and Information Society Ministry will be headed by G17 Plus’s Jasna Matic, with Snezana Samardzic-Markovic retaining the youth and sport ministry. The final ministry to go to G17 Plus will be that of the National Investment Plan, which will be led by Verica Kalanovic. Mirko Cvetkovic (FoNet)
