British Ambassador to Belgrade Stephen Wordsworth hopes that Serbia will have a government that will take the country “to Europe in large strides.” Speaking to weekly Nedeljni Telegraf, Wordsworth confirmed that he came into contact with many influential people in Serbia, but said that he was not pressuring anybody, or offering millions of dollars to convince anyone to do anything. But, people are talking about this, they talked about it before the elections too, which I found very strange,” he stressed. “The biggest risk of this kind of outcome is voter saturation,” warned the ambassador, adding that “citizens vote and vote and vote, but nothing happens.” Wordsworth also underlined that Russia and the West had the same aims in the Balkans—for the region to be prosperous, stable, and in the EU.
