Several dozens military reservists from Kursumlija blocked the municipal Electoral Commission in this southern Serbian town late last night. The reservists, who participated in the local elections as the “Iron Regiment” ticket, said that they are not content with the work of the commission. The reservists held the members of the commission inside the local assembly hall locked for over two hours last night. Several dozen reservists entered the building late last night and stayed there until the morning while the commission counted votes for the two polling stations and determined if any irregularities occurred. The army veterans first accused commission officials of illegally taking one mandate from their ticket, and then asked for the final results to be published, and for a confirmation of whether the elections will remain valid. After a heated argument, the men blocked the hall’s exit and did not allow commission officials to leave for two hours. The reservists left a little after 23:00 CET, after which the commission decided that the voting at the two polling stations should be repeated once again. “The Electoral Commission confirmed irregularities in the elections and the results at both polling stations will be nullified,” Milijana Rakic of the commission told Beta news agency, adding that there were two extra ballots counted at one polling station, while at another, citizens were voting without proper identification. The commission also made a decision to repeat the third round of local elections at two polling stations in Kursumlija, and set the date for May 25.
