In order for the transitional trade agreement with the EU to take effect on July 10, a new government must be formed in Belgrade by June 10, daily Dnevnik writes. The Novi Sad daily cites sources close to the Slovenian EU presidency, stating that implementation of the agreement will enable Serbia to receive EU candidate status by the end of the year. EU calls for new government by June 10 “The next EU presidency, which will be French, does not plan to deal with the issue of Serbia in July, so if no government has been formed by the middle of June, everything would be pushed back to the autumn, which would compromise Serbia’s chances of receiving EU candidate status in December,” an EU diplomat told the daily.
