A two-day period ahead of the voting Sunday, known as election silence, will start tonight in Serbia. 22 parties and coalitions competing for the seats in the next parliament, as well as those who are taking part in the local and provincial elections, are obligated by law to cease with their campaign activities at midnight Thursday. Silence to descend on bitter campaign The media are also prohibited from carrying any statements that are, or could be understood as campaigning, or reporting about opinion polls that predict the outcome of the vote. The ban will remain in force until the polls close at 20:00 CET Sunday, May 11. The campaign, which officially started nearly two months ago, saw acrimonious exchanges between the favorites to win the most votes, mostly over the defense of Kosovo and the country's future EU integration.
