DS leader Boris Tadic said last night that the coalition of pro-European parties would triumph over hatred, fear and ignorance on May 11 and take Serbia into the EU. “There are those who build their aims on fear. We need great courage to achieve our national aims. No fear can stop us from reaching our goals, and that goal is Serbia in Europe,“ Tadic told his party’s final convention in Republic Square in Belgrade. DS coalition holds final convention The Democratic Party (DS) leader told Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) leader and outgoing Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica that he would never again lead the country, and that nor indeed would Serb Radical Party (SRS) leader Tomislav Nikolic have that honor. He said that the “For a European Serbia” coalition did not bear any hatred towards others. “We leave it to our political opponents to spread fear and hatred until May 11. Afterwards, it will become a crime, as it is in other countries in Europe,” warned Tadic. The president accused the DSS and SRS of brutally lying to the people with stories that Kosovo had become independent with the signing of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU. He said that never in his life would he give up his peaceful struggle for Kosovo, and that he would never allow that struggle to endanger the lives of his fellow countrymen. G17 Plus leader Mladjan Dinkic told a crowd of several thousand supporters that Sunday’s elections were the most important since 2000. Dinkic said that there were not 20 lists standing at the elections, but just two—the SRS and “For a European Serbia“. The reasons why people should vote for the latter were, he said, to have a stable currency, for the free share distribution to be worth at least EUR 1000, to have peace of mind when it came to their savings, for young people to have the chance of a better education, and for pregnant women to be able to receive 100 percent of their pay during maternity leave. The convention started at 1700 with the arrival of Tadic and the other coalition leaders, and they were accompanied on stage by figures from public life, including actors, musicians, sportsmen, as well as candidates for parliament, and local and city authorities. Several thousand supporters came carrying DS, G17 Plus, Serbian Renewal Movement, Serbian, and EU flags, as well as yellow and blue balloons.
