The head of the “Hungarian Coalition” list says that the parties of Vojvodina’s Hungarian minorities are ready to enter a coalition with pro-EU. parties. “Coalitions are only possible with parties of pro-European orientation, though in some municipalities we will have to cooperate with the Radicals, Socialists and some others, depending on the election results,” Istvan Pastor told Vojvodina TV yesterday evening. "Hungarian parties to support pro-Euro forces" He said that while Vojvodina’s Hungarians were concerned about who would triumph at the May 11 elections, it nevertheless remained “a Serbian thing.” “Serbian voters will decide which road the state will take, and our wish is to become an important political factor by gaining five to seven seats in parliament,” added the president of the Union of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM), the largest of the three parties in the aforesaid coalition. “In the event the so-called nationalists win at republic level, we will go into the opposition, but even in there we will have to keep contact with the future government in order to try to achieve our interests,” Pastor added. He reiterated that the Hungarian Coalition supported Serbia’s Euro-Atlantic integration, NATO membership included, as well as the rejuvenation of the economy, further decentralization, more autonomy for Vojvodina, and the territorial autonomy of Hungarian communities in northern Backa and Banat. “The territorial autonomy of the Vojvodina Hungarians is impossible without changing certain laws, which means that we need the support of the majority of MPs. But, for the negotiations to start, we have to insist on the concept the SVM agreed on with the Democratic Party of Vojvodina Hungarians and the Democratic Association of Vojvodina Hungarians,” Pastor stressed.
