President Boris Tadic met with Fiat CEO Sergio Marchione in Belgrade yesterday. They told reporters after the meeting that the fact the Italian company wishes to once again manufacture cars in Serbia was very good news. Tadic, Fiat CEO meet in Belgrade Tadic, who is the leader of the Democrats (DS), also said there was "positive excitement" in Serbia because of the news that Fiat will once again produce cars here. He also reminded that Serbia signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with the EU on Tuesday, and added that he will do everything in order to make the deal, as well as a cooperation memorandum signed with Fiat yesterday, as productive as possible. Marchione told journalists that the signing of the SAA was the decisive factor for Fiat to come to Serbia. According to him, the Turin-based company will invest EUR 700mn in production facilities in the next two and a half years, and manufacture some 300,000 vehicles in Serbia. The Fiat CEO expressed his hope that the contract to regulate this will also be signed very soon, but he did not specify which models Fiat intends to produce in Kragujevac.
