Ban says UNMIK continues under 1244

The United Nations will continue to work within its mandate in Kosovo, under Resolution 1244, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in Vienna Friday. Speaking at a news conference after the opening of a new conference center at UN's headquarters in the Austrian capital, he said that the world organization's priority was to control the situation in Kosovo peacefully. "Since the situation on the ground is rapidly changing, I hope all sides will continue to maintain a close cooperation. That is what will top the agenda of discussions I will have with the Austrian and EU representatives," he told reporters. The secretary-general has embarked on a three-day visit to Austria, where he is scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik, Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer, and President Heinz Fischer.
