Russian UN ambassador Vitaly Churkin has received a letter from Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic. In the letter, Jeremic urges Security Council members to discuss the situation in Kosovo following the excessive use of force by UN peacekeepers and KFOR against Serbs in the town of Kosovska Mitrovica as early as possible. It was earlier confirmed to Tanjug at UN headquarters that UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon had received the letter from Jeremic in which he protests against the absolutely unacceptable and excessive use of force by international troops in Kosovska Mitrovica on Monday, requesting an investigation into the causes of the incident to be launched within the UN. In his letter to Ban, Jeremic states that it should be established who ordered the use of force and what triggered the incident, particularly because it occurred after consultations and successful negotiations between Kosovo Minister Slobodan Samardzic and UNMIK Deputy Chief Larry Rossin the night before, the foreign minister's cabinet informed Tanjug.
