The DSS held a main board meeting in Belgrade today; Slobodan Samardzic moves up party ranks. Outgoing Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, who heads the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), said that the election campaign coalition rallied around President Boris Tadic's Democrats (DS) is a coalition of "weak politics and big propaganda." Speaking about his party's rivals, Kostunica said that Kosovo cannot be preserved with empty slogans, just as Serbia cannot become an EU member with – empty slogans. "This new coalition, of Canak, the Democratic Party and G17 Plus, is publicly saying that Kosovo is independent. They say it is collective madness to say that Kosovo is Serbia. The new coalition says, that for the sake of a calculation involving the Kosovo part of the Serbian foreign debt, Serbia best turn her head away from Kosovo," he continued. He also accused Tadic's party of wanting to annul the strategic energy agreement with Russia. The DSS has completed its elections list today, at the same time appointing Minister for Kosovo Slobodan Samardzic as one of its deputy presidents. The DSS leader said the party objectives are the struggle for Kosovo and Metohija, Serbia's territory remaining integral, and becoming a member of the European Union (EU) as such. Speaking at a session of the DSS main board, Koštunica said early parliamentary elections set for May 11 are very important for the future of the state, and that this is why "it is important that the citizens support Serbia, so that a state-building government can be formed after these elections."Speaking about his party's rivals, Koštunica said that Kosovo cannot be preserved with empty slogans, just as Serbia cannot become an EU member with – empty slogans.
