The Kosovo assembly speaker says that Serbian local and parliamentary elections should not take place in Kosovo. “Kosovo declared its independence, which is backed by international support, so I think that Kosovo should not hold elections organized in other countries,” said Jakup Krasniqi today, after a meeting with EULEX Chief Yves de Kermabon. Pristina: Elections shouldn't be held in Kosovo Radio Free Europe reported that UNMIK spokesman Aleksandar Ivanko had said on Wednesday that only UNMIK could organize and call elections, and that a decision would be taken on the matter after consultations with Contact Group and the UN member-states. Meanwhile, Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu said that the Kosovo Serbs, based on the Martti Ahtisaari Plan, had a right to dual citizenship—Kosovo and Serbian, which opened the way for the parliamentary and local elections, scheduled in Serbia for May 11, to be held in Kosovo too. Pristina daily Zeri writes that, for the first time since 1999, Serbia clearly intends to organize local elections in Kosovo, thus ignoring the legitimate and internationally recognized institutions in Kosovo municipalities. The daily states that this would be in breach of UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
