Vojislav Kostunica says it's very important that citizens “elect a nationally accountable government.“ The outgoing prime minister and Democratic Party of Serbia leader said that the May 11 elections were of immense significance to Serbia. Kostunica: Citizens to choose nationally accountable govt. He called on citizens to choose a nationally accountable government that would have the strength to fight to preserve Kosovo, that would guarantee the country’s stable and prosperous economic development, that would negotiate with the EU on an equal footing over the country entering the Union as an intact state, and that would clamp firmly down on crime and corruption. “I have told citizens that I have lost confidence in the sincerity of our coalition partners thus far, the Democratic Party and G17 Plus, to continue to fight against our province’s unilateral declaration of February 17 and to continue this difficult, but only just nationally accountable policy,” said Kostunica in a written statement. “That’s why we have returned the mandate to the people, and it is up to them to decide whom they want to entrust with the running of state and national policy,“ the DSS leader concluded.
