Milanko Sarancic says that there is a real possibility of Serbian Railways regaining control over its property in Kosovo. “We invested a lot in this area in 2007 alone. Serbian Railways paid off a debt of EUR 4.5mn,” the Serbian Railways CEO said. Serbian Railways assess Kosovo property After the company took steps yesterday to reassume control of its infrastructure in northern Kosovo, he stated that the move was in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244. “Once we confirm the state of our railways and iron out the arrival and departure times for travel, we will implement our line which will enable travelers to use our services with workers and assets run by Serbian Railways,” Sarancic said. He added that the stretch in question was from Lesak to Zvecan, a round trip of about 88 kilometers. The company is also intent on establishing freight lines, which will be the next move, Sarancic said, adding that the company owned about 330 kilometers of line in Kosovo and a considerable number of freight and passenger coaches, locomotives, stations and other railway buildings. Sarancic said that two passenger trains would be serving the Zvecane route for the time being, but that more were planned, including a line from Kraljevo traveling through Raska, Lesak and back.
