Kosovo Police Service (KPS) Serb officers continue their negotiations today with UNMIK. Serb officers from Strpce are the only ones still working regularly while all others in Kosovo have left the KPS. Kosovo Serb officers continue negotiations Strpce station commander Dragan Ivanovic, however, said that all 40 of the Serbian officers want to continue working under UNMIK, but they do not want to hand over their weapons and other equipment to the KPS. “We will not give back our weapons, because in that case, Serbs in Sirinicka and Sredacka Zupa would remain unprotected,” Ivanovic said. Serb officers from Kosovsko Pomoravlje and central parts of Kosovo were suspended after failed negotiations. They did not return to their jobs in the allotted period of time. KPS spokesman Veton Elsani claims that there are no new talks scheduled today with Serb officers from Strpce. Elsani told B92 that talks were held on Saturday and that the KPS was "satisfied with the agreement reached". EU special representative in the province Pieter Feith told radio Kontakt Plus that he "hopes that Serbs will return to the KPS". Feith said that if the Serbs do not return to their positions, the openings will be filled with international police officers. The Serb officers in Kosovo want to continue working under the United Nations Kosovo mission and refuse to recognize the new mission being sent by the European Union.
