Serbs in northern Kosovska Mitrovica are continuing peaceful protests in front of the municipal court. The Kosovo Serbs are asking for their jobs back within the municipal and district courts, and to have the court work under the jurisdiction of the Serbian Justice Ministry. Peaceful protests continue in Kosovska Mitrovica About one hundred former court employees are protesting peacefully in front of the courts, where some 20 UNMIK and KFOR officers are monitoring the situation. Kosovo Serbs met with Gerard Gallucci, the UN administrator of Mitrovica, who said that their demands must be taken to Pristina in order for a decision to be made on the issue. District public prosecutor Milan Bigovic said that Serbs want to peacefully return to their work places and confirmed that Zvecan and Leposavic will have Serbs in their court positions starting Friday. Not even ethnic Albanians have been coming to work in the Kosovska Mitrovica courts, which practically do not function at all as judicial institutions. The local jail is also located within the same complex. The reintegration of Serb workers will be discussed in at the “highest level” in Pristina. Serbs were relieved of their duties in the court on August 11, 1999. Students of the Pristina University will continue protests today against the unilateral declaration of Kosovo independence. It was also announced that Serbian education and environmental protection ministers Zoran Loncar and Sasa Dragin will visit several Kosovo municipalities.
