The U.S. embassy in Serbia has ordered the temporary evacuation of non-essential staff. The BBC says the decision came a day after rioters attacked the building and set it on fire. U.S. to evacuate embassy from Serbia U.S. embassy spokeswoman Rian Harris told AFP news agency: "Dependents are being temporarily ordered to depart Belgrade. We do not have confidence that Serbian authorities can provide security for our staff members." Another spokesperson told Reuters news agency the ambassador and core staff would remain. Serbia's ambassador to Washington has been ordered to return home on Monday, when the U.S. recognized the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo, a proclamation Belgrade rejects as illegal.
