Lulzim Basha says that a proclamation of Kosovo independence is a matter of “weeks, if not days.” The Albanian foreign minister added that UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari’s plan “should be implemented in reality.” Independence matter of weeks, says Albanian FM “I am afraid that the last chance of continuing negotiations came and went with the end of the work of the international mediating Troika [of envoys from Russia, the U.S. and the EU),” Basha said in Washington. He said that the time had come to “move forward” for the sake of the people of Kosovo, “who deserve a future,” and “to establish peace and security throughout the entire region.” Basha said that Albania “shares the opinion of the absolute majority of UN Security Council and General Assembly members,” that implementation of the Ahtisaari plan should begin without any further delay.
