CACAK, BELGRADE Democratic Party candidate Boris Tadic says that European integration does not distance Serbia from Kosovo. “Europe at all costs, but head held high” said Tadic in an interview with TV Cacak. Tadic: EU doesn't want to steal Kosovo He said that a “false impression” was being created that the EU wanted to steal Kosovo, stressing that the Union could not recognize Kosovo or any other country for that matter, as independent. The incumbent president added that only individual countries could recognize an independence declaration. “Not all EU member-states support Kosovo independence. Not Cyprus, not Greece, Romania, Spain, and not even Holland, who are exerting pressure on us to cooperate with the Hague Tribunal because of the terrible crimes in Srebrenica that led to the fall of their government, but who would never recognize an independent Kosovo without a UN Security Council decision,” he explained. Tadic said that even if the Albanians did declare independence, there would be no “surrender”, and Serbia would fight to the end with diplomatic means. The president added that Serbia would launch legal proceedings against any country that recognized Kosovo independence. Boris Tadic (FoNet, archive) Politics Beta Tanjug
