A political analyst says Europe made a mistake in its appraisal of Serbia's democratic forces when it comes to Kosovo.

A political analyst says Europe made a mistake in its appraisal of Serbia's democratic forces when it comes to Kosovo. "The pro-western democrats are equally nationalistic as others when it comes to Kosovo, only with more moderate methods," Jacques Rupnik, a professor at the Paris Institute of Political Studies, told Bratislava's Hospodarske Novini. Analyst: EU was wrong on Serbian democrats "A year ago we tried to make sure pro-European forces won in Serbia. Now we see that we have appraised the political situation badly. The so-called pro-Western democrats are as nationalistic as the rest," he claims. Rupnik also expressed his faith that Slovenia, which for the next six months holds the rotating EU presidency, will bring a positive impulse to the solving of the Kosovo status issue "since it knows the Balkans problems up close." "Slovenia's main role will be to try and persuade both sides to accept compromise and to stress their European perspective."
