Parliament will today debate amendments to the draft laws necessary for calling local and provincial elections. The laws in question are on local self-government, elections in local self-government, the capital and in territorial organizations. Parliament to discuss local election laws Election legislation stipulates that local elections be held according to proportional representation, while mayors and municipal presidents should be chosen from among municipal assembly or city officials. Parliament’s regular session ends today, while Constitutional Law envisages that local elections be called by December 31, within 60 days of the last of these laws coming into force. Under the proposal, the laws would come into force one day after being published in the Official Serbian Gazette.
