Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu says acts of Serbia's institutions "cannot block Kosovo's independence." After meeting Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin in Pristina Thursday, Sejdiu said that "Serbia is not the one that can influence Kosovo's destiny." Serbia doesn't influence Kosovo destiny, says Sejdiu "In reality, the policy Serbia has led and is now leading has brought about confrontation and bloodshed between the peoples of Kosovo, as well as between other peoples," Kosovo's president said. According to him, such Serbian behavior is not in the best interest of Serbian citizens and regional stability. Sejdiu stated that anyone who attempts to intervene in Kosovo will have Kosovo's people to reckon with, as well as the strong international military presence, whose task is to protect the people of Kosovo. Kalfin for his part said that the issue of Serbia's European perspective should not be linked with that of Kosovo's status, nor with the internal political events. It is very important for Bulgaria, Serbia's neighbor, that the region as a whole goes in the direction of the European Union, Kalfin said after his talks with representatives of temporary Kosovo authorities. He underlined that Kosovo Albanians should demonstrate, as far as the process of the province's status resolution was in question, their adherence to cooperation with the international community, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry added in a statement. During his meeting with the Kosovo Albanian officials, Kalfin said that all parties should continue insisting on non-violence and make practical steps towards the implementation of the Ahtisaari plan. Kalfin also visited with the Bulgarian soldiers and policemen deployed in Kosovo.
