Serbia will not hesitate to use any political, diplomatic or economic means to protect its interests, Vuk Jeremic says. But the authorities will make sure the country is not being brought into isolation, the foreign minister told the daily Politika. "Kosovo remains on agenda after Dec. 10" "A destabilization of the Balkans in 2008 as a consequence of a unilateral proclamation of Kosovo's independence, which is not in line with international law and which would be recognized by third parties, would represent a defeat of the international engagement in the Balkans in the last 15 years, as well as a collective defeat of democracy in the entire region," Jeremic said. He added that the pressure for the independence of Kosovo is "extremely strong" but that there are many countries holding that a compromise is impossible. "Before [Dec.] 10 or after that date, we will not reconcile or accept anything that is not in line with our constitution, international law and that is de facto an imposed solution we did not agree with," the chief of the Serbian diplomacy said. Asked which measures his ministry would undertake toward the countries which might recognize a possible unilateral declaration of Kosovo's independence, Jeremic said that the government has been considering such measures "for a long time", and that the Foreign Ministry would operate "in line with a decision by the government".
