President Boris Tadic says the Belgrade negotiating team won't accept any solution leading to Kosovo independence. Tadic told FoNet in an interview that December 18 and 19 were the first available dates that international institutions could discuss the Contact Group mediating Troika report, adding that he did not expect any international acts concerning the matter until March next year. Tadic dismisses independence, unilateral moves At the same time, the government is preparing an Action Plan in the event of a unilateral declaration of independence. The president said that Belgrade’s proposal for Kosovo’s status envisages the model of essential autonomy being set a 20-year timeframe, with the possibility of reassessing the situation at the negotiating table upon expiry of that time period. He repeated that Serbia did not accept any change of borders and loss of sovereignty over the province and stressed that Belgrade would continue to insist on reaching a negotiated status solution, even in the event of a deadlock after December 10. “I believe that a peaceful period will follow the end of the talks on December 10, and that everyone will act responsibly without recourse to unilateral moves,“ Tadic predicted. “I’m still absolutely convinced that we can reach a compromise, in spite of the signals to the contrary,“ the president insisted. “But we’ll have to look for solutions in the event of the process taking a negative turn for Serbia, and we have to face up to the facts, no matter what they are,“ he said. Should anyone resort to unilateral moves, Serbia would behave as any other normal state would in a situation where someone was trying to unlawfully alter its territorial shape, warned Tadic. “Serbia can do everything that is within the realms of law and diplomacy,“ the president said. “Any other solution, resorting to any sort of violence harms Serbia’s chances to return to Kosovo in its full capacities and would utterly destroy the economic and development potential of our society and every one of our citizens,“ he stated. “This the quickest way to send Kosovo on the road to independence,“ concluded Tadic.
