The prosecution ought to react to the Miroslav Miskovic-Cedomir Jovanovic dispute, says a leading lawyer. Sasa Beljanski told B92 that the Prosecution could respond to the matter according to its legal duty if no legal proceedings were launched. "Prosecution should react in Miskovic – Jovanovic case" “It seems to me they should, because the events in question are sufficiently significant to come to the attention of the prosecutor. The Public Prosecution is legally bound to respond when it comes across information of a criminal act that’s being pursued." "Should any information come to light from Miskovic or Jovanovic that could point to a criminal act, the Prosecution should certainly follow it up and check that information,“ said Beljanski. The lawyer said that it was difficult to tell whether the Prosecution would react to Delta owner Miskovic and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) leader Jovanovic’s allegations, as the Prosecution is greatly influenced by the executive authorities and is not independent, but rather a separate body. The LDP’s legal team will lodge a formal complaint against Miskovic, who previously accused Jovanovic of involvement in his abduction in 2001, calling him friend of the mafia, an allusion to his dealings with the Zemun Clan criminal group. In a public statement sent by the Delta owner, he asked Jovanovic whether he had helped himself to any of the 5 million marks ransom money. Meanwhile, Jovanovic claims that Miskovic, via a middle man in the U.S. embassy asked for his name to be taken off the black list in return for influencing government policy on Kosovo.
