Vojvodina officials are demanding a state-level meeting regarding the Horgos-Pozega highway concessions contract. The meeting would be used to come to an agreement on paying funds from the deal owed to Vojvodina, based on an analysis of the contract. Vojvodina demands highway concession meeting If no agreement is reached, Vojvodina Executive Council President Bojan Pajtic said legal action would be taken to protect the province’s rights. According to the commission that analyzed the concessions contract, Vojvodina is due about EUR 220mn, which would be paid in installments, and would be used for the development of Vojvodina’s travel infrastructure, said Pajtic. Payment of this money is just one of the demands Vojvodina representatives plan to present to state officials at the meeting. “We want government officials to allow their Vojvodina counterparts to participate in the selection of an independent engineer, in united working bodies and commissions, as well as in the board of directors and other administrative structures in future concessions projects, when and if they are launched,” Pajtic said. Failure to meet these demands could result in legal action on the part of the Vojvodina authorities, according to the provincial administration. “If these demands are not met, we will implement other legal mechanisms, such as legal action through the provincial public prosecutor's office which is obliged to protect the property and property interests of Vojvodina,” Pajtic said. Pajtic said that the Vojvodina authorities would insist on a memorandum, a letter of intention or a similar guarantee that the province’s interests would be protected. A meeting has yet to be scheduled, but is expected to be held within the next week.
