The chair of the Russian Duma foreign policy committee says Kosovo negotiations should be prolonged after December 10. Konstantin Kosachev said that the Contact Group Troika-mediated status talks should continue after the deadline set for the international mediators to submit a report to the UN secretary-general. Russia to back Kosovo talks after Dec.10 According to Tanjug, Kosachev specified Ban Ki-moon was "obliged to present a proposal on the continuation of talks and that his term of office obliged him to put forward new initiatives, once the deadline expired, and thus give a chance to new ideas." "I have to say this - Russia will unequivocally back such a proposal," Kosachev underscored in an interview for the Belgrade daily Politika. He qualified as "extremely interesting and thorough" Belgrade's Hong Kong idea, "as a model of coexistence between a sovereign state and its separate part." "If adopted, such a solution would be of great importance not only for Serbia and Kosovo, but also for the international community as a whole, and it could be applied in other parts of the world as well, in places where we have misunderstandings of this kind," Kosachev said.
