Parliament has ratified treaties with the EU on visa relaxations and readmission in Belgrade Wednesday. They are due to come into force on January 1, 2008. Parliament ratifies visa, readmission treaties Ratification of these agreements represents a significant step towards EU membership, and putting Serbia on to the white Schengen List, that is to say, liberalization of the visa regime. All parties voted for ratification of the visa relaxation agreement except the Serb Radical Party, while the readmissions agreements was opposed by the Radicals, the Socialist Party of Serbia, the Union of Vojvodina Hungarians and the Roma Party. The two agreements were signed on September 16 in Brussels. The readmissions agreements governs the return and readmission of Serbian nationals, third country nationals, and those citizens without any citizenship who entered the EU via Serbia, and are living there illegally.

Ratification of these agreements represents a significant step towards EU membership, and putting Serbia on to the white Schengen List, that is to say, liberalization of the visa regime.
